Let's take a step back in time...... Do ya'll remember me talking about my ulcers?
Allow me to refresh your memory...
There was the 4 am "Ulcer pain wake up call".
There was the "Had to leave dinner at a friend's due to ulcer pain".
There was the 2 weeks that I spent "Drinking cabbage juice to cure ulcers."
And then for good measure "An update on my ulcers" post.
There was the time I fainted due to my "Ulcer pain" and the only one home was Caden, who was 4. There was the time that I was taken out of a Kohls by an ambulance because of my "Ulcer pain". And also a time I laid on my inlaws couch and cried due to my "ulcer pain". I could continue... But I think you get the point that my "Ulcers" have made my life hell for the last 2 years. I'd had an endoscopy done, no ulcers found. And I'd had a barium swallow done, no ulcers found.
Anywho... on Saturday the 2nd of July I started getting "ulcer" pain. Which kept me up all night, and which I still had when I woke up. So I decided to go to the Emergency room. But not the same one I had been to the last 2 years. I wanted a new opinion!!
So I went to the ER and (When I finally get seen) the Nurse asks me if I'd ever had my gall bladder looked at. Nooooooooooooooooo. So during my next 4 hours of waiting in the ER to be seen I googled my gall bladder. And BINGO!! What do you think I read?

• Pain or tenderness under the rib cage on the right side
• Pain between shoulder blades
• Stools light or chalky colored
• Indigestion after eating, especially fatty or greasy foods
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Bloating
• Gas
• Burping or belching
• Feeling of fullness or food not digesting

 I had what was called a Cholycystectomy.

I can't stop crying. For the fourth day in a row. And it doesn't help that Seth left this morning for work and won't be home until Tomorrow. It also doesn't help that I have been getting about 3 cysts a day for the last week, that I have an excrutiating UTI that won't go away, and that I have been getting large, painful knots in my legs everytime I have to walk my two miles to go pick up Caden from school.
Since Seth is gone that means that I get to wake up early tomorrow to walk Caden to school. Then walk home. Then walk to pick him up!!!
I was supposed to have a project...FINALLY PAINTING THE LIVING ROOM!!!

You should. Because 1 in 10 woman are diagnosed with PCOS.
I am one of those woman.
PCOS is a systemic endocrine and metabolic disorder that affects the whole body. Woman with PCOS have a much higher risk of diabetes, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and breast cancer. There is currently no cure for PCOS.
PCOS appears to be an inherited condition. If your sister has had PCOS, you may want to be checked for the syndrome. Likewise, if you have or have had PCOS, your sister should probably be tested.

PCOS symptoms are often different for each woman. It is a complicated disorder with many possible signs and symptoms. The increase in androgens contributes to many of the symptoms that women experience. Because androgens are hormones which cause the typical male characteristics, many of the symptoms cause a distressing change in appearance. Depression is common as a result.

For me PCOS is incredibly painful, sometimes daily. I am on 7 different prescription medications, 4 just for the pain. It completely screws up your hormones, and since your hormones regulate your whole body, you never know if something is really wrong with you or if it's just a side effect of the PCOS.
I was officially diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago. 1 year ago I was told I have Cancer cells forming in my Ovaries and Uterus.

Alright my lovely readers, buckle your seat belts. Prepare for a tale of woe.
I am in shock. I have had some bad doctor's. And I have had some bad appointments. But nothing like today.
Last night while at a friend's house I got multiple cysts on both ovaries at the same time. I was in so much pain. But I didn't get worried until I realized I was bleeding. A lot. Which is fairly abnormal with PCOS. We went home, I took some meds and plugged in the heating pad and went to sleep, letting Seth know that if I still felt bad in the morning I would be going into the ER.
I woke up this morning in some pain, but it started to get worse. I was not looking forward to spending all day in the ER, so Seth suggested  I call our new do and see if I could  get in today to see him since seeing him would be a more longterm solution.
I called the doc office and they said they wouldn't have time to see me till tomorrow. I told them not to worry about it since I would just go into the ER instead. The receptionist asked me to wait and after 7 minutes on hold she said that she had moved stuff around and they could see me at one. PERFECT!
Seth and I were there at ten till. And then we sat and sat and sat. Till almost 4.
We sat and sat listening toother patients bitch about how bad of a doctor he is. most of the people there today had appointments on Friday. But when they showed up there was a note on the door telling them the office was closed and the doc would not be in. He never even bothered to call these people to let them know he wouldn't be in!!! People took off work, took  a bus, paid for baby sitters, and he left them a note on the door.
He had people standing in this little bitty room for hours waiting on him. His one receptionist was also his one and only aid. No nurses. All I could do was wait and listen to stories of the doc. One woman saw that I had brought my medications with me. She told me that if I had anything left in the bottles to empty them before he saw them or he would take my old pills. lol not wanting her to think I doubted her I poured them out into my purse. What could it hurt? One woman had gone to the ER last week when she couldn't get in to see the doc and hada come in today for a follow up. He refused her treatment! Said that she should have waited on him. And because she didn't he would no longer see her.
Needless to say I was nervous by the time I finally got put into a room. I noticed instantly though that no one weighed me, took my temp, or even my blood pressure. Standard procedures for doctor's offices.
When the doctor walked in he said "OK, why are you here?"
I told him that I had been having more than the usual amount of cysts on my ovaries, and quite a bit of blood, and that I was nervous and in a lot of pain. He looked straight at me and said "What do you want me to do about it.?" (He  said it in a very annoyed voice.) I sorta just looked at him puzzled for a moment, and said "Run some tests, give me some pain pills. If you don't know I could just go to the ER." Oh bad move Miss, that set him off!
He gave me this lecture on how me needlessly bothering the doctor's at the ER was just being selfish on my part. And that if I went without his consent he would no longer see me. (While I understand people needlessly going to the ER I also understand how here in Cal for many people going to the ER is the only way they  can get treated.)
I stayed calm. And told him I mainly just needed some relief from the pain. He told me I was probly just experiencing menstrual cramps and would be fine. (Now I was envisioning punching him.) I explained to him that I had the Mirena IUD in and had nod had a period in almost 3 years. I also told him that for my disease that should be a huge warning sign to him, since the Mirena stops your ovaries and uterus from working. So I shouldn't even be producing cysts let alone bleeding. He asked me, again, what disease. PCOS. "Oh that. Well...That's nt a real disease. That's just a fake name they gave a symptom so that fat woman would have an excuse not to try to lose weight." OMFG!! NO YOU DID NOT!!! 
So after a few deep breaths I told him that I would love to give him the number to the Woman's health doctor, who is a man, who works at  UCD, whom I was seeing before, who agreed with 2 other doctor's diagnosing me of this disease. He just stared at me like I had no clue what I was saying. Then he says "All woman have cysts. You just need to learn how to deal with it." (Dead man walkin!) I asked him to request my most recent ultra sound labs and he could see that I get more than the occasional cyst. He then proceeds to tell me that if I am getting many cysts all the time then I do not have this disease. (Now's when I became a smartass! You would have been proud Nik.) I asked him if that's the case then why does the P in PCOS stand for Poly, which means Many? Many Ovarian Cysts? He just snorted at me. So I told him to give me a referal to a real OBGYN so that I wouldn't take up more of his time. He said he wasn't going to take up her time either, but he would get me an ultrasound. Fine! Whatever!
So then he asked to see my current meds. As I was handing them to him he asked if I had any pills left in the bottles, before I could answer he said that if I did he would take them. Since He was refilling my RX's I wouldn't need the old pills. (Wow super illegal!!! My ins paid for those. That makes them mine, even if they were outdated, which they were barely 6 months old.) I just kept my mouth shut. He started going over each drug. "Why are you taking Metformin? You a diabetic?" Ugh no! But my disease makes me more vulnerable to diabetes. My body stores food instead of using it. The metformin makes my body use it's food. So I have energy and I lose weight. Did he care about any of that? Nope!!! He asked me what my blood sugar levels were. i don't know, I don't test them. Well why nnot if you're on diabetic meds? AH!! At this point I was on the verge of tears and ready to run screaming from the room. Then he asked why I was taking muscle relaxers. I told him I have a disc in my back that slips out. He said the only cure for that i surgery. I said fine, sign me up. He said i was too young. I told him I was tired of living with the pain of it. He said he would prescribe me meds. O yay! I'm too young for surgery to repair a herniated disc but you can keep giving me pills. Isn't that just punch you in the gut, spit in your face fantastic??? It continued on and on till I finally had 9 prescriptions written out, a referral for an ultrasound, and an order for blood work.
As I was leaving I asked him when I could do the bloodwork. He said that it was just across the way and  I could go right now. YAY! Something easy.
Seth and I went across to the other building and checked in. The guy behind the counter looked at his watch and said "You know it's almost 5 yes?" Uh...er...why? He laughs "I'm pretty sure you haven't been fasting the last twelve hours." What? Yeah...my dumbass doctor marked it that I needed to fast before the bloodwork, didn't tell me of course.
Anywho, 2 hours at walmart and 9 prescriptions later I am at home doped up on Vicodin. I have three RX's that I am supposed to take 3 times daily that make me drowsy. How do they expect me to take care of my son?
Ugh anywho tomorrow begins the search for a new doc! Wish me luck.

I have been gone since Wednesday. Miss me? Well I do have a good reason.
SO...Wednesday at 4 am I woke up with intense pain in my lower abdomen. My first thought was that one or both of my ovaries had collapsed. The pain was so bad I threw up, and was so dizzy I could barely walk down the hallway. I called Seth, who was at a friend's house in the bay area, and woke him up. (I didn't know who else to call.) He had just gone to bed less than an hour ago, so I had to work REALLY hard to get him to wake up. I was in so much pain I had tears runnin down my face. I just kept asking him to talk to me, take my mind off the pain while the vicodin kicked in. I begged him, tell me a story, a real one, a fairytale, finally I asked to hear about the latest football game. Which he knew by heart. Of course. By the time he was done the pain was fading and I hung up and fell asleep.
I woke up at nine and the pain was coming back. So I took some more meds. Threw dinner into the crockpot and called Seth. I told him I needed to go to the ER. He wasn't supposed to be back till the next day. So he said he was going to sleep for an hour or so more and then head the 2 hours or so home. He got back a little before noon and we trekked off to the hospital. Of course Seth and Caden had started arguing before we even left the house. So the whole trip there Caden was crying and Seth was yelling and I was begging Nikki to remind me why this was worth it!!!!!
We spent 3 hours waiting in the ER. But as soon as I got back into a room they had me hooked up to an IV and a morphine drip. LOVELY!!!
They did ultrasounds first. First a regular one, then the wand that goes INSIDE. (OUCH) Then even worse....they put in a catheter, inflated my bladder and then did the first ultrasound again. (DOUBLE OUCH!!!) All they could tell me was that I had one cyst on my left ovary. (I could and did tell them that before they got started.)
After I got back from that, and had MORE morphine, they decided to do a pelvic exam. (yay) My ER doc didn't hear me or didn't believe (Or in my morphine induced stupor I didn't actually tell him) when I told him I needed the Child's speculum...Needless to say by the time he was done my Blossom was wilted.
At that point I was on so much morphine and had been given 4 litres of fluid that I was nauseated and then they gave me something for that and I slept for over an hour. While I slept Seth took Caden to spend the night with Kevin and Jenna. (THEY ROCK!!!) When he came back it was 11 pm and I had been at the ER since noonish. The doc finally came in at midnight and told me they had no answers. And that they wanted to keep me overnight. I told them I didn't care anymore, that I was ready to go home if they didn't mind, and she agreed that would be best. (THANKFULLY!!! Cause Seth was so irritating at the hospital that I wanted to claw his eyes out!) She said she felt it had something to do with the PCOS and that they would never know what it really was, and that if I had more pain I could just come back. (Oh yeah)
So by 1-ish in the morning I was home and tucked into my own bed.

The next morning I was still hung over from the morphine and needed to take more pills, which means I needed coffee and something to eat. I offered to make breakfast if I could get some help since I was still pretty dizzy, but Seth said we would just go grab something. I figured that meant we would go to Denny's or something....so I was shocked when at 11 am he said Taco Bell. Ugh. So I said I needed breakfast. He said only one place was still serving breakfast. And I said Oh, Jack in the Box. Which I know he doesn't like. So I said we didn't need to go there. He said we would try Carl's Jr. And I said they weren't making breakfast anymore. But he drove their anyway. Which of course they weren't serving breakfast. So I ordered coffee, and he got mad that I didn't want food. And I got mad and said sorry that a cheeseburger sounded gross at 11 am!!! So I got coffee. He got a burger. My cup had a hole so it leaked on me all day. And I kept wishing he would get heart burn. No such luck.
We picked up Caden...apparently moments after he threw up on Kev and Jen's couch. Great. AND OF COURSE...that did not stop Seth from yelling at Caden for something stupid on the 5 minute drive home.
Needless to say I was spent. I crawled up to my apt, flopped down on the bed, and cried myself to sleep.
Seth told me just after 5 that we had to leave at 6 to go out to dinner with friends. Apparently He had just made the plans. So I scrambled around trying to get dressed in time. Only to find out we were going to sushi. Which is ok.....normally. Not my favorite. And that night it was just not gonna work with my already upset tummy.
But I was the good wife, got dressed, and went out with a smile on my face, and didn't have to bad a time. Then our friends wanted to go see Sherlock Holmes. I was dying to see it again but Seth didn't want to take Caden. So I chose to go home and let him go out, they are really his friends anyways. I came home, put the monster to bed, talked to my friends, watched the ball drop and kissed my dog at midnight.

Oh and my keyboard/computer had a Y2K meltdown Wednesday morning...I just got it semi fixed tonight.

Today is a hard morning. I am not quite sure why yet. Usually I get up, drink some coffee, make some breakfast and swallow a small pharmacy. I don't want to eat today. I do not want to take my pills. Each one of them helps me but I am so tired of swallowing 7 pills with breakfast.
Yesterday I threw up lunch...which was odd since I don't have to take anything with lunch...but I guess it's just a side effect of something. I'm really tired of throwing up. It's making things with my Esophageal tract worse. Ugh which reminds me...I go to UCD to pick up my kit today, then I have a Barium Test Monday morning. So NOT fun.

Ok I have gotten a few emails with questions about how Metformin helps PCOS. So instead of answering you all individually I am just gonna answer them here.
*First of all Metformin is not really for someone with light to moderate PCOS symptoms, It's used in treating woman, like me, with advanced stages of the disease but who are still too young to have a Hysterectomy.

Metformin works in three ways. First, it decreases the absorption of dietary carbohydrates through the intestines. Second, it reduces the production of glucose by the liver. Third, and most importantly, metformin increases the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin.

Insulin is a hormone...go figure...Women with PCOS frequently have "insulin resistance", a condition where excessive amounts of insulin are required in order to get blood glucose moved into cells, where it belongs. Metformin helps your body to transport glucose with relatively less insulin, thus lowering your insulin levels. Chronically high levels of either glucose or insulin in your blood contributes to obesity, heart disease, infertility, and certain cancers, as well as the development of diabetes.Blah Blah blah...

Current news: I am currently on 6 different medications. The welbutrin for my PTSD. Then one for the migraines it gives me. Another for the itchy rash it gives me. One for ulcers. One for the ovarian pain. And one to help me sleep. Each one of these saps my energy and makes me dizzy.

It feels like it has been a lifetime since I have written on here.
OK so the update on being on the Welbutrin... I am getting migraines that last all day. I swear I am taking excedrin migraine 4 or 5 times a day. I wake up with a migraine and I go to bed with one. Not even Vicodin kills this headache. And to top it off I get itchy rashes. (That's what the picture is of. The rash on my thigh. It's how it tends to look but usually a lot bigger and itch's bad!!) They will start on my foot, then move to my scalp, then my tummy...on and on. AND....as if that is not enough...I am NOT sleeping. I am taking two vicodin and sleeping pills now to try to sleep at night and I am lucky to sleep between 2 am and 7 am. (Which Jazz loves cause it means she has someone to stay up with her at night when she can't sleep and play cards with. LOL)
All of these things are side effects of the drug. I have an app next week with the DOC, hopefully he will be able to do something to help me.
Also....2 weeks ago I found out I have HPV. HPV is basically a prequal to Cervical Cancer. But my doctor is fairly certain that I have cervical cancer now. I have to wait till October before I can get a biopsy. Until then.....yeah I am really going to need the depression pills. haha. How apropos.
I can't stop crying. I cry at night. I cry during guardasil commercials. I cry when Seth leaves for work. Oh yeah....I am way more clingy to him. (Which he loves) All of a sudden I feel like when he is not here my whole world is spinning off it's axis. When he is home and all of a sudden I feel lost and out of control I just reach over and grab his hand and all of a sudden my world settles. It's nice but really weird for me too.
Honestly I really don't know what I'm doing right now. Each day is a haze. I'm constantly losing stuff, I will swear something happened and it never did. lol I have never been like this before and it is hard on me.


Oh yeah...I told my mom about the Cervical cancer thing...only cause I promised my Grandma I would keep my mom in the loop about stuff, even though she doesn't return the favor, and cause it's genetic and my little sister has never had a pap smear...And my mom said they main way you get it is due to your husband cheating on you. That it's from an STD. And my sister doesn't have to worry about it cause she is smart enough to still be a virgin at 22. Yeah....Seriously the only thing I can say about that is what an ignorant bitch. Either she really believes that BS or she is just a bitch who is purposely being evil. Now mind you she claims to have been given an STD by her second husband, and then 4 years later she had cervical cancer, So maybe in her case it is true. But I called her, while holding Seth's hand AND crying my eyes out, and that's what she says to me.
Ugh I'm too disgusted to write anymore about this now.

I have not written in awhile. I blame the meds. lol!
UGH!!!! But it's true. They tend to make me not monologue in my head all day so I don't know what to write.
Last Friday, a week from today, I was in the ER for 10 hours. They think I have ulcers. So now I am on new meds and I am waiting for an Endoscopy to be scheduled. Have I said that I have an app to meet with specialists about my PCOS? October......OCTOBER!!!! That makes me crazy!
Life is goin on. And I am just along for the ride right now. Sometimes I don't even feel like I am conscious for most of it. I am takin the max amount of Welbutrin everyday. I still have nightmares. I still get mad for no reason. I am still an insomniac. I just don't leak tears as easily as before. I cry...just not always tears. THAT'S ODD! I dunno....I hope some things get easier soon.

Ok so the basics for this disease are that you get many painful cysts on your ovaries. However this is also considered a metabolic disorder. It means that there are numerous factors in basic body processes that have gone awry. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a dysfunction that is related to the whole body, not just the ovaries. The main cause of PCOS is genetics. If other woman in your family have had it more than likely you will get it to.
Common Side effects of PCOS are:
*Multiple Ovarian Cysts (duh)
*Irregular or Absent Periods. (Could be nice!)
*Acne (Double Dammit)
*Inability to Lose Weight (Triple Dammit!!!)
*Excessive Body Hair (Quadruple dammit and a OH HELL NO!)
*Insulin Resistance and Eventually Diabetes.
*Thinning of the Hair on the Head.
*Pigmented Skin Folds (EW!)
*Hormone Imbalance
*Impaired Lung Function (Just great for my asthma!)
*Sleep Apnea (That actually explains a lot)
*Fatty Liver Degeneration (Fat does not sound good)
*Depression (Yeah...uh...double check)
*Deepening of the voice (Guess that makes me a soprano 2 now)

There are some things that they can do. They will usually treat the symptoms, so hormone therapy, Birth control pills and anti-androgen meds.(Androgen is a male hormone. An overproduction of that is the cause of PCOS and some of the nastier symptoms) Also an anti diabetic drug called Metformin is given. In some cases they do Ovarian drilling. Which is drilling 4-30 holes into your ovary. OUCH!!! And sometimes hysterectomies. (Which they usually do not want to do in someone my age. But since my cysts are so bad and frequent and I already have one child they may re consider.)
If my PCOS is left untreated there are many bad things that WILL (not could) happen:
*Cardiovascular Disease
*Diabetes
*Pregnancy Associated Disorder
*Cancer (Endometrial Cancer and Ovarian Cancer)
*Seizure Disorder

Ok so right now I just want to focus on finding a way to lose weight and get rid of the debilitating pain that I get when I have a cyst(s).
More when I know more.


Quick update...This is a picture I made. If my measurements are correct...which they may not be cause I suck at Math and I'm still in a pissy mood...That is roughtly 5 and 1/2 MM. Which is the size of the cyst the radiologist found last week on my Ovary. And an Ovary is roughly the size of an almond.
Hence the picture! lol ENJOY!

Ok so I have had one too many gin and tonics. and i'm writing this from my DSi cause i dont feel like gettin my butt off the couch...anywho...i had a doctor's visit today. LAME!!!
It was for a pap smear but they had gotten my ultrasound results back from the week before. and they aint good.
ok i already figured i had PCOS (Polly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) but my ultra sound confirmed it. my teensy little ovarie had a 5 1／2 mm cyst on it. stretchin my ovarie out. and considerin that one was not even that painful to me who knows how bad the others are!
basically...goodbye more kids...hello hystorectomy.
i have appointments scheduled at UCD. We shall seewhat happens.
